HBCA Member or Huron Beach Resident:
The State’s recovery from the Covid-19 virus seemed in sight a few weeks ago but now appears to be uncertain. Vaccinations in the tip of the mitt have exceeded expectations. Lines at Walmart, Walgreens, and the K of C Hall have all but disappeared. Schools have returned to in-person learning and the hospitality sector has resumed operations at 50% capacity under mask and social distancing mandates. For us northerners 50% would be a welcome off-season capacity, ski resorts excluded.
The HBCA board is proceeding as though in-person meetings will be permitted by Memorial Day, and annual fund raising will resume. Our Spring membership meeting is scheduled for May 29th at 10:00am at the Huron Beach Civic Association Hall. Presume that masks and at least three feet of social distancing will be a prerequisite. Contact tracing will also be conducted (not a problem since attendance records are customary). Last year’s plan was to solicit a presentation on the status of cannabis distribution in the Huron Beach area. Recall that by resolution, both Ocqueoc and Bearinger Townships opted out of allowing medical and recreational growth as well as distribution/sales facilities. By contrast, three facilities have opened in Cheboygan, and one in Rogers City. Since PIE&G has resolved to offer broadband service following the award of a $10MM government grant, it seems pertinent to have someone speak to the time frame of installation, activation, and potential costs.
Our annual garage and bake sale to benefit the Association and the Bearinger-Ocqueoc Fire Department is scheduled for Saturday, July 10th, from 9AM to 1PM. We’ve already commenced collecting donations at the association hall. For any drop-offs, contact Tom Peterson at 603 732-2180. We’ll also be accepting donations at the Fire Department between 3-6PM on Thursday the 8th, and between 9AM-12N on Friday the 9th. Bake sale contributions will be accepted at the hall before 9AM Saturday the 10th. Volunteers on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday are welcome.
Attached is the 2020 membership application form. Annual dues are still $25. Solicitations are being sent to current e-mail and USPS addresses in the hope of maintaining membership. Some members previously requested that we not use e-mail for notifications. We renew our appeal for all members to use e-mail since it reduces our notification costs. If on the other hand you prefer notifications via USPS, we will honor your request and we apologize for the e-mail solicitation. If you have sold your cottage within the past year or two, we are requesting that you provide new owner contact information. If you purchased a new cottage along Huron Beach, please return an updated application form with your dues.
Note, the application form has been amended to include a ballot for a slate of officers based on nominations received by December 31st, 2020. Please return the form along with your selection of officers. No nominations were received for an open board member position. The new board may exercise its prerogative to appoint one to serve for a single term. Since no election was held last year, this ballot will only serve to install a board until new elections can be held at the fall membership meeting on Labor Day weekend. You can vote to approve the entire slate of officers by placing an “X” in the “Approve Entire Slate” box. The official tally will be from member applications received by May 28th. The results will be announced at the beginning of the May 29th meeting.
We hope to see you at the spring meeting on the 29th of May.
Best regards,
Thomas E Peterson Sr
Treasurer, HBCA
